Cross-platform play is not a single switch. A working setup may depend on a game account, several platform accounts, multiplayer privacy, family controls, subscriptions, regional availability, and game-specific progress rules. A concise record helps players, families, teams, or support staff understand what is linked, who controls it, and which changes could affect access to saved progress or purchases.

Define the intended experience

Start with the decision: which game, platforms, players, and features should work together. Record whether the goal is crossplay matchmaking, invitations, voice chat, shared progression, shared purchases, or only the ability to use the same identity. These are different outcomes. List known exceptions by game and platform instead of writing a blanket promise that everything transfers.

Build an account and ownership map

For each service, record the public account identifier, platform, accountable owner, recovery-email owner, family manager where applicable, subscription owner, and whether multifactor authentication is enabled. Do not store passwords, recovery codes, or session tokens in the record. Add the linked-account relationship, the date it was verified, and a screenshot or vendor page reference. Before linking or unlinking anything, confirm which account holds the progress that matters.

Epic Games says Fortnite purchases and progress are generally available across linked Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch, and mobile accounts when they connect to the same Epic Games account, with an exception for V-Bucks (Epic cross-platform progress guide). This is a game-specific rule, not a universal rule for all cross-platform titles. Record the authoritative account for each game and any currency, inventory, or progression exceptions.

Capture privacy and multiplayer settings

Document the path and current value for crossplay invitations, communication, friend requests, matchmaking, user-generated content, and family restrictions. PlayStation's privacy guide says privacy settings are tied to the account and reflected across devices. It also identifies communication and multiplayer controls, including who can interact through parties, games, and messages and whether crossplay game invitations are received (PlayStation privacy settings). If a child account is involved, record the family manager and which settings the child may change.

Treat link changes as controlled work

Create a change checklist: identify the progress-bearing account, capture the current link map, confirm recovery access, read the current vendor warning, obtain authorization, make one change, then verify the game on each affected platform. Epic's account support warns that different platform progress cannot always be combined and that a platform account can be limited to one account relationship at a time. Its guidance recommends identifying which progress should be kept before changing links (Epic account sync guide).

Test and maintain the record

Use a reversible test: confirm sign-in, send a crossplay invitation, verify allowed communication, check the expected progression or inventory, and record the result on each platform. Avoid purchasing items merely to test synchronization. Review the record after a console replacement, account-recovery event, privacy change, family-role change, or major game update. A successful handoff means an authorized backup person can locate the account map, explain the limits, reproduce the privacy settings, and verify play without guessing which account owns the data.
