Prepare battery drain for a new user by handing over a measured baseline and a short diagnostic plan, not a list of permanent restrictions. Record the device model, operating-system version, battery-health information exposed by the device, charging equipment, typical usage, app and system battery activity, signal conditions, display settings, recent updates, symptoms, tests already run, and the owner of the next check. Remove personal data before sharing the packet.

Capture a baseline before changing settings

Start at a known charge level and record the time, charger, temperature context, screen-on use, background use, network conditions, and remaining battery after a normal observation period. Note whether the symptom occurs during active use, idle time, travel, poor signal, charging, or one application. Do not compare two days with substantially different use as if they were controlled tests.

Apple's iPhone battery-usage guidance explains that the Battery screen shows recent usage percentages and can offer insights about conditions or patterns affecting battery life. Apple's iPhone usage and health guide further distinguishes on-screen, background, and cellular-coverage activity. Capture those categories when available rather than blaming the largest percentage without context.

Prepare a privacy-safe handoff packet

Include device and OS versions, observation window, charge start and end, important settings, app versions, top app or system categories, screen time, background activity, signal conditions, heat observations, charger type, recent installs or updates, and screenshots with account names, message previews, locations, contacts, and identifiers removed. Record what is unknown.

Explain the user's expected workload: calls, navigation, games, video, hotspot use, camera, background syncing, work profile, or long idle periods. The same battery result can have different meaning under a different workload, so the packet should help the new user reproduce the original conditions.

Describe adaptive behavior and settling time

Google's Pixel battery guidance says Adaptive Battery learns from recent app use and that optimization after a new-device setup or factory reset can take time. Its battery and charging overview repeats that a new or reset phone may need a few weeks before behavior is fully learned. Mark the setup or reset date so early observations are not treated as a stable baseline.

Do not copy one platform's setting names to another device. Link the instructions that match the exact model and OS. If a setting is unavailable, record that fact rather than forcing an equivalent.

Give the new user reversible steps

Prioritize observation before restriction. Check for an OS or app update, review battery activity, repeat the baseline, and change one nonessential setting at a time. Record the old value, new value, reason, time, result, and rollback. Avoid disabling security updates, emergency features, authentication, or required work controls merely to improve a battery test.

If the device overheats, swells, shuts down unexpectedly, shows physical damage, or cannot charge safely, stop routine experiments and use the manufacturer's current safety and service route. The handoff should not attempt a physical battery repair.

Confirm that the handoff works

Ask the new user to identify the baseline, reproduce one observation period, locate the relevant battery-usage view, explain recent changes, and know which setting can be rolled back. Keep raw screenshots only as long as needed and according to the agreed privacy rule.

The handoff is successful when the new user can compare like with like, distinguish active from background use, and continue troubleshooting without inheriting unnecessary restrictions or another person's private account data. Review the packet after a major update, reset, battery service, or meaningful workload change.
