Delete an app account only after you have preserved needed data, identified dependent logins and integrations, handled billing, and recorded the final result. Deleting an app, signing out, unlinking a subscription, and deleting an account are different actions. Confirm which one the service is offering before continuing.

Inventory the account and its dependencies

Record the account email or identifier, service name, billing source, renewal date, devices, shared spaces, connected apps, and any websites that use the account for sign-in. Identify content owned by the account, such as files, purchases, messages, projects, recovery codes, or shared folders. Transfer ownership when another person or team still needs the material.

Review whether deleting this account will remove access to another service. Replace a social sign-in or single-sign-on dependency before closing the identity that provides it. Remove active API tokens, sessions, app passwords, and third-party integrations when the service allows it.

Export and verify needed data

Use the service's supported export tool and save the archive in protected storage. Google's data-download guidance explains how to select product data and create an archive, while noting that recent changes may not be included when they occur between the request and archive creation.

Open the archive before deletion. Check its file count, size, readable formats, attachments, dates, and a sample from every important content type. Save receipts or records needed for warranties, taxes, or support separately according to your own retention requirements. An export that cannot be opened is not a verified backup.

Handle billing separately

Find who actually charges the account. Billing may come from the app company, an app store, a wireless carrier, or another provider. Cancel through the billing source and save the confirmation, effective date, and any remaining access period. Apple's subscription guidance shows that App Store subscriptions are managed separately and advises checking the receipt or payment statement when the billing source is unclear.

Do not assume that account deletion cancels a subscription, or that canceling a subscription deletes stored data. Check both states. Resolve outstanding balances, refunds, or ownership transfers through the provider before deletion.

Submit the deletion request

Read the warning screen and note what will be deleted, what may remain, and whether there is a recovery period. Confirm the exact account identifier and choose permanent deletion only when that is the intended outcome. Do not follow deletion links from an unsolicited email; navigate through the signed-in app or the provider's official support page.

Capture a non-sensitive confirmation number or email. Then sign out of remaining devices and remove local app data only after the server-side request is accepted. Removing the app first can make verification harder.

Verify closure

After the stated processing period, try the provider's official sign-in and account-recovery paths without creating a new account. Confirm that active sessions, connected apps, and billing entries no longer show the old account. Review the next payment statement for an unexpected renewal. Keep the export and deletion evidence for a reasonable period, then remove unnecessary copies securely.
